Torrey Pines High School freshman Zander Samarasinghe, with the help of the Associated Student Body, collected over 200 pounds of school supplies for orphanages in Sri Lanka. Zander, along with his family, traveled to Sri Lanka over spring break and delivered the items personally to several orphanages. Items such as notebooks, pens, pencils, markers and glue were donated. The “School Supply Drive” could not have been done without the generosity of the students and staff at Torrey Pines High School.

Zander said of his trip, “It was great seeing the kids’ faces when they got the supplies. I cannot believe how excited they were to receive these items”. Zander and his sister, Camille, have visited and made donations to Sri Lankan orphanages in the past and plan to continue giving to these orphanages in the future.
