A bicyclist who crashed and fell off his bike in Carmel Valley Nov. 5 was rescued by firefighters and taken to a hospital, according to authorities.

Rescuers were dispatched to the open space behind Torrey Pines High School near the intersection of Del Mar Heights Road and Lansdale Drive at about 10:45 a.m., according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Lee Swanson.

The man, who was believed to be in his 70s, complained of neck pain. Firefighters were able to carry the man, whose identity was not released, without the help of a rescue helicopter, Swanson said.
