Melinda “Michi” Synn, a Carmel Valley resident and fifth grade student at Solana Pacific Elementary School, will be featured on the NBC game show Genius Junior Sunday, April 15 at 9 p.m.
Neil Patrick Harris hosts Genius Junior, which celebrates “the brightest children in America,” according to the show’s website. Twelve teams of children from across the country, ages 8 to 12, will take the stage to compete in a series of increasingly complex quizzes with the goal of being crowned Genius Junior, the website states.
The show has 10 episodes and the first six episodes are head to head “heats” between 12 teams (this Sunday is episode four), according to Michi’s mother Stella M. Sung, Ph.D. The next three episodes are the semifinals--head to head between the six “heats” winners. The last episode is a finale with three semifinals winners, narrowed down to the top two teams after one round.
According to a biography on the show website, Michi “is the youngest intern at a cancer laboratory researching possible cures for the disease. She’s more than three grade levels ahead in math and language arts. She says she’s the proud mom to eight dolls and eventually wants to be a pediatrician.”
