Multiple seats up for grabs in local school board elections
Several local school districts have seats up for election this November and candidates have until Aug. 10 to file their declaration of candidacy with the County of San Diego Registrar of Voters.
The San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUHSD) has three seats up for election in its newly formed trustee areas and the Del Mar Union School District and Solana Beach School District have three seats up as well.
As of press time in SDUHSD Area 5, which covers portions of Carmel Valley and Pacific Highlands Ranch, three candidates have pulled papers including parent Lea Wolf, Del Mar Union School District President Kristin Gibson and Cheryl James Ward, who was recently a candidate for the San Diego County Board of Education. The seat is currently held by trustee Amy Herman.
Current SDUHSD board Vice President Mo Muir and parent and PTA member Amy Flicker have pulled papers for Area 1 (which covers most of Encinitas) and current trustee John Salazar has pulled paperwork for Area 3, along with Encinitas resident Rhea Stewart. Area 3 includes Rancho Santa Fe and Solana Beach.
In the Solana Beach School District, the seats held by Holly Lewry, President Debra Schade and Vicki King are up for election. King and Schade have pulled papers so far, as has Gaylin Allbaugh.
In the Del Mar Union School District, the seats held by Doug Rafner, Kristin Gibson and Scott Wooden are up for election. So far Wooden, Rafner and Pacific Highlands Ranch parent Gee Wah Mok have pulled papers.
