Woman seriously injured in solo crash into telephone pole in Solana Beach

A woman suffered serious injuries when she crashed her car into a pole in Solana Beach and had to be extricated from the wreckage, authorities said Thursday, Dec. 27.

The crash occurred around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, on Lomas Santa Fe Drive near South Granados Avenue, sheriff's Lt. Dave Perkins said.

The woman was driving a 2004 Volvo sedan west on Lomas Santa Fe Drive when she lost control of the car for unknown reasons and slammed into a telephone pole, the lieutenant said.

The woman, who was the lone occupant of the Volvo, was trapped in her car when deputies arrived and was extricated by firefighters later, Perkins said.

She was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for treatment of major injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, he said.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to be factors in the crash, Perkins said.
