The Solana Beach City Council approved new labor agreements with firefighters, and other city employee groups at its meeting on Wednesday, July 11.
On a 5-0 vote, the council approved a tentative agreement for a new four-year contract with the Solana Beach Firefighters Association, which calls for firefighter/paramedics and fire engineers to receive a raise of 2.75 percent beginning in the first full pay period in July, with fire captains receiving a raise of 3.25 percent.
In the following three years, all firefighters would receive raises of 2.5, 2 and 2 percent, respectively. Firefighters also would receive an increase in the amount the city pays for their health benefits. The total cost of the new compensation packager over four years is $1.2 million, according to a city staff report.
By a separate 5-0 vote, the council also approved raises for several other employee groups, including miscellaneous employees, marine safety workers and unrepresented managers.
Both the marine safety and miscellaneous employees reached new three-year labor agreements with the city, calling for a 2.5 percent raise for the fiscal year that began July 1. The management employees also will receive a 2.5 percent raise for the current fiscal year. All of the above employee groups will also receive a 5 percent increase in their monthly health benefits, according to a staff report.
In addition, six employee classifications will receive one-time salary adjustments over the next two years. Those positions include senior code compliance officer, senior engineering technician, assistant civil engineer, associate and assistant planner, and associate civil engineer.
According to the staff report, salaries for City Manager Greg Wade and members of the city council will remain unchanged this fiscal year. Wade’s salary will remain at $17,250 per month, as established in July 2017, and council members will receive $712 per month, a salary level established in 2008.
