Motorcyclist crashes into pickup, dies on I-5 in Solana Beach
The CHP said the crash happened north of Via de La Valle
A 24-year-old motorcycle rider was killed Wednesday, Nov. 10, after his bike rear-ended a pickup on Interstate 5 in Solana Beach, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The motorcyclist was headed south in the fast lane, north of Via De La Valle, when his Kawasaki motorcycle struck a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 about 9 a.m., CHP Officer Hunter Gerber said. The impact caused the rider to lose control and be thrown onto the freeway.
He died at the scene. Gerber said the rider lived in Nevada City, about 60 miles northeast of Sacramento, but his name was not released.
Southbound I-5 lanes were closed until about 11 a.m. while the CHP investigated the crash. Investigators believe neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the collision, Gerber said. Investigators had not determined why the motorcyclist crashed.
Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call the California Highway Patrol at (760) 643-3400.
