Abandoned boat found on Del Mar beach, seized by feds
The boat, believed to be a smuggling vessel, was found with two life vests onboard but no passengers, a U.S. Border Patrol spokesperson said
An abandoned boat believed used for human smuggling was seized after it was found on the beach at Del Mar’s Sea Cliff Park early Thursday, officials said.
Surfers discovered the boat just before 6 a.m. off Coast Boulevard near 15th Street. Del Mar lifeguards arrived and had it towed away, according to OnScene TV.
The boat, described as a pleasure craft, was seized by Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations personnel, said Border Patrol spokesperson Dan Anderson.
Anderson said two life preservers were found on the beach.
