Olympian High School student arrested in connection with school shooting threat

A 10th-grade Olympian High School student was arrested Wednesday evening on suspicion of posting a school shooting threat on social media, Chula Vista police said.

School officials at the Magdalena Avenue campus alerted police to the threat around 3:30 p.m. Police released few details about what it depicted, saying only that it was spotted on on Instagram.

Employees were able to determine who the student was, and officers went to the girl’s house, police Lt. Eric Thunberg said.

She was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats about 6:20 p.m. Officers did not find any weapons in her home.

Local schools have been confronting a wave of school threats in the weeks following a deadly school shooting in Florida that left 17 people dead. Some contained violent images or messages while others were shared online or scrawled on school property.

Wednesday’s arrest is at least the fifth police have made of a juvenile suspected of making criminal threats in recent weeks.
