Students at San Diego City, Miramar and Mesa colleges will receive their regularly scheduled financial aid payments next week even if the federal government shuts downs, says the San Diego Community College District.
Roughly 9,000 students are scheduled to receive about $9 million in financial aid disbursements on February 15th.
The district will use its reserves to cover the $9 million, money that will later be reimbursed by the federal government, said Jack Beresford, a spokesman for the district.
Congress is currently debating the federal budget. But there is a possibility that they will not reach agreement in time to avoid a shutdown.
