A large construction truck came down a steep road and plowed into a Santee home Monday morning, causing significant structural damage but no serious injuries, a fire official said.
No one was home when crash happened, shortly after 9 a.m. on Padre Lane off Ellsworth Lane, Battalion Chief Justin Matsushita of the Santee Fire Department told OnScene TV. The area is several blocks south of Prospect Avenue.
The battalion chief said the truck came down the hill at “pretty much full speed” then tore into the home, ending up deep inside.
“Although there is significant damage to the house … we are just thankful that no one got hurt,” Matsushita said.
Video footage shows the truck completely inside the home.
“It actually is holding up the structure for the most part right now,” Matsushita said. “Our concern at this point is that when we pull the truck out, what’s going to happen to the structure?
“It’s likely that we are not going to be able to do enough shoring to completely make it so it’s not going to collapse to some degree.”
Fire crews were working with a building inspector to figure out how best to remove the vehicle.
