Baseball:
La Costa Canyon extended its winning streak to 10 games as the Mavericks defeated El Camino 5-2 in an Avocado League West game on May 7.
The Mavericks snapped a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth on Mickey Moniak’s three-run homer.
The victory followed a 9-0 shellacking of El Camino two days earlier in which Nick Scheidler struck out seven batters and allowed no walks in six innings of three- hit ball.
Blake Miller had three hits including two doubles and four RBI and Moniak had a home run and a triple to lead the Mavericks offensively.
The Mavericks improved to 10-1 in league and 19-5 overall for the season.
Torrey Pines salvaged the finale of a three-game Palomar League series as the Falcons defeated Westview 8-2 on May 5.
Kyle Hurt struck out nine batters and allowed no walks in seven innings. He allowed two runs on six hits.
The Falcons lost the series opener 4-3 on May 2.
Hurt, Ryan Bramlett, and James Rutledge each had two doubles in defeat for the Falcons.
Two days later the Falcons experienced a 3-2 loss to Westview in which Sean Bingham had two of the Falcons’ four hits.
The Falcons fell to 6-5 in league and 16-9 overall for the season.
Santa Fe Christian defeated Horizon Christian 2-0 in a Coastal League game on May 7 that went nine innings.
Chet Moody pitched a three-hit complete game shutout as the Eagles won for the sixth time in seven games. Moody struck out four batters and allowed one walk.
Kyle Ferraro had three hits including a double to lead the Eagles offensively and Moody added two hits including a double and one RBI.
The victory followed a 1-0 league win against HCA two days earlier in which Matt Pierson pitched a three-hit complete game shutout.
Murphy Stehly had two hits including a double and one RBI to lead the Eagles offensively.
The Eagles improved to 7-3 in league and 16-8 overall for the season.
Cathedral Catholic defeated St. Augustine 4-3 in an Eastern League game on May 4.
Connor Lunn struck out eight batters and allowed no walks in seven innings to lead the Dons. Lunn allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits.
Cole Mueller and Nick Nastrini each had two hits lead the Dons offensively.
The victory followed a 3-0 nonleague win against Mater Dei Catholic in which Sam Miller pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the Dons.
The Dons scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie.
The Dons improved to 5-3 in league and 18-8 overall for the season.
Canyon Crest Academy’s quest to snap its longest losing streak of the season ended in heartbreak as the Ravens lost to Poway 3-2 in a Palomar League game that went nine innings.
The Ravens rallied from a 2-0 deficit, scoring one run in the fifth inning and another in the seven to send the game into extra innings.
M.J. Metz homered in defeat for the Ravens.
The Ravens fell to 2-8 in league and 14-10 overall for the season.
San Diego Jewish Academy lost to Foothills Christian 3-1 in an Ocean League game that went eight innings on May 5.
The loss followed a 6-3 win against Foothills Christian two days earlier in which Justin Eicher, Bradley Brown and Konner Von Der Leith each had two hits to lead the Lions.
The Lions improved to 1-1 in league and 12-5 overall for the season.
Softball:
Freshman Haley White pitched a no-hitter to lead Torrey Pines to a 4-0 Palomar League victory over Mt. Carmel on May 5.
The victory extended the Falcons winning streak to 11 games.
White struck out two batters and allowed two walks.
White, who improved to 10-1, has emerged as a standout. She lowered her ERA to 1.34 in her most recent outing. She’s held opposing hitters to a .179 batting average.
Cassie Kaelber and Mikaila Reyes each had two hits to lead the Falcons offensively.
The victory followed a 6-1 league win against Westview two days earlier in which White pitched a three hitter.
White also led the Falcons offensively with two hits and one RBI.
The Falcons improved to 22-3 in league and 8-0 overall for the season.
