Bikers gear up for Cystic Fibrosis ride
Solana Beach resident Broc Glover is hoping people will rev their engines and join in on the second annual Breathe Easy Ride against cystic fibrosis in Old Town Temecula on March 29. All proceeds from the 100-mile ride will support the Sorrento Valley-based Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and its quest for a cure or control for CF.
Glover, a motocross champion who is in the American Motorcycle Association Hall of Fame, started the ride last year to help raise awareness and funds for CF to support his son Dayne, who was diagnosed in 2007 at age 5.
Dayne is a first-grader at Skyline Elementary in Solana Beach, one of as many as 2,000 children in San Diego who have CF.
Cystic fibrosis, the most lethal genetic disease for children, strikes the lungs and respiratory system, making it very difficult to breathe. It’s almost like breathing every day through the tiny opening of a straw.
“As his parents, every increasingly labored breath Dayne takes weighs doubly heavy on our hearts,” wrote Broc Glover in a news release.
The life expectancy for a CF a patient is 37 years, and there is currently no cure.
Glover and his family are committed to giving Dayne as normal a life as possible while waiting for the cure.
Glover has lined up a host of celebrities from the motorcycle world who will ride for Dayne, including Jeremy McGrath, Roger DeCoster, Eddie Lawson, Scot Harden, Ron Lechein, Brad Lackey, Denny Berg and Brenda Fox.
Several great raffle prizes will be up for grabs, including the grand prize of a brand new Yamaha Roadstar. Raffle tickets are $1 a piece.
Breathe Easy is an all-day event: Complimentary breakfast will be served to registered riders at 10 a.m., followed by an autograph and photo session. After the ride, around 4 p.m., there will be food, a raffle drawing and a concert from the band Heartless.
