Bishop’s grads receive awards
The Bishop’s School celebrated its 100th graduating class on May 28. The Class of 1960 walked with the Class of 2010 to celebrate the school moving into its second century.
The following students from Del Mar, Del Mar Heights and Carmel Valley received recognition:
Christopher Boutelle, son of Barbara and David Boutelle, received a Stephanie Blankenship Award, given to students who attend Bishop’s for six years and make the honor roll each semester during those years. Earlier this year, Boutelle was inducted into the Cum Laude Society. He will attend Swarthmore College.
Amy Fleming, daughter of Theresa and Standish Fleming, also received a Stephanie Blankenship Award and was inducted into the Cum Laude Society. She will attend Wellesley College.
George Kailas, son of Chris and Spiro Kailas, also received a Stephanie Blankenship Award and earlier this year was inducted into the Cum Laude Society. He will attend New York University.
Hyunwoong Kang, son of Hyun Soon and Bang Mo Kang, received the Otto Mower Award at commencement for being on the honor roll for four or five years at Bishop’s and making the honor roll each semester during those years. He will attend New York University.
Janet Jeong, daughter of Yoon Choi and Duke Jeong, is the first Chamber Ensemble student at Bishop’s to graduate since the group’s inception four years ago. Jeong, who plays the violin, is also an associate concertmistress in the San Diego Youth Symphony and Philharmonic and will attend Wellesley College.
The following Del Mar/Carmel Valley residents also graduated from Bishop’s:
Emma Wilde Botta, daughter of Drs. Mary Wilde and David Botta, will attend Tufts University.
Caroline Healey, daughter of Tracy and Christopher Healey, will attend University of San Diego.
Emily Savage, daughter of Jacqueline and David Savage, will attend Chaminade University of Honolulu.
Savannah Smith, daughter of Kimberly Hunt and Billy Ray Smith, will attend Cornell University.
Harriet Berholtz, daughter of Rachel and Randy Berholtz, will attend Berklee College of Music.
Fiona Collinson, daughter of Dr. Stuart and Heather Collinson, will attend University of Southern California.
Lee Lynch, daughter of Anne and William Lynch, will attend Southern Methodist University. Anne Lynch is a member of Bishop’s Class of 1982.
Zachary Negroni, son of Danielle and Daniel Negroni, will attend Boston College.
Yasaman Pirahanchi, daughter of Maryann Najafi, will attend UCSD.
Anna Prouty, daughter of Dr. Dale and Elaine Prouty, will attend Barnard College.
Bennett Sexton, son of and Jane and Robert Sexton, will attend University of Missouri, Columbia. Jane Sexton is a member of the Bishop’s Class of 1977.
Robert Xie, son of Dr. Weilin and Liping Xie, will attend Swarthmore College.
