Bystanders rescue man from burning vehicle

On Sunday, Jan. 25, at 5:10 p.m., firefighters from the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District, Del Mar Fire Department and San Diego Fire and Rescue responded to a rescue traffic collision in the 14000 block of Via de la Valle.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a single vehicle had gone off the road, hit a tree, and caught fire. Firefighters worked to quickly extinguish the flames. Bystanders assisted in removing the injured driver who was trapped in the burning vehicle before emergency crews arrived on scene.

The patient, a 42-year-old male, was transported via ambulance to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla with serious injuries. There were no other passengers in the vehicle and no other injuries were reported. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
