Boil-water order cancelled

The San Diego Water Department is canceling the boil-water order it issued Monday morning for parts of northwestern San Diego following a large water-main break.

Authorities notified residents and businesspeople that their tap water was safe again for human consumption, following a pipeline rupture and replacement.

The San Diego Water Department issued a boil-water order on Monday for about 14,000 customers in the Torrey Hills, Del Mar, Carmel Valley and Pacific Highlands Ranch areas.

Crews patched the broken section of pipe in Torrey Pines State Park on Tuesday, but those who live and work in the area were directed to boil their tap water for at least a minute until further notice to kill any germs in the lines.

The problem affected about 140 restaurants..
