Carmel Creek ‘Cougars in Motion’

Cougars in MotionLast week the runners who participated in Carmel Creek Elementary’s “Cougars in Motion” fitness program received their well-earned awards. All students who ran or walked 8 miles or more during the past school year received an award which was accompanied by the loud cheering and applause from their peers. Every Thursday during the lunch break the children from Carmel Creek elementary school come out to run or walk quarter-mile laps along the grassy fields. They earn the wildly popular “foot” or “shoe” charms for varying numbers of laps which are collected on a bracelet.

Participants who show consistent attendance are also rewarded with “star” charms. The goal of the program is to encourage each individual student to reach his or her personal best. To further motivate the children to participate in this fun, non-competitive program, special days are organized where parents can run or walk with their child, which are very popular. The children love the program, and each year more children join the club and more laps are run. The top runners ran about 59 miles in total. A record amount of miles for Carmel Creek!
