Carmel Valley artist Boutia Moshiri found an innovative way to deal with an unwelcome medical diagnosis. When her doctors told her she had breast cancer, she became creative in finding ways to cope and prevail. Moshiri began painting about her cancer recovery, which lasted well over two years. This resulted in five pieces of art she titled, ‘The Mermaid Collection.’
Art is her best therapy: “Every piece of work is a reflection of my feelings and all of this helped me to become stronger. My art gave me daily encouragement to fight on.” She says she is now cancer free and continues her art daily. Her works have been displayed throughout Southern California, including the Los Angeles Museum of Art, and most recently at Art San Diego 2014 in Balboa Park.
