Carmel Valley flutists attend master class with top flute master
On Oct. 9, San Diego Coastal Flutes, a coalition of Carmel Valley professional flutists attended a master class with Sir James Galway, one of the most recorded classical artists worldwide and modern flute master.
The master class was a collaboration with the San Diego Symphony and San Diego State University and was attended by more than 300 flutists from all over Southern California and Mexico. San Diego Coastal Flutes (SDCF) co-founders September Payne, Vivian Bergova, Joyce Hayutin and Elena Yarritu played in the class along with members Tiffany Covel, Jean Lewis, Cindy Broz, Renee Tresko and Angela Rowland.
In a solo portion of the five-hour class a SDCF student, 13-year-old Omar Gaidarova, was given the opportunity to perform a sonata for Galway and a full audience.
Payne said that Galway’s talent and insight led to a very inspirational class for all involved. “It’s a great privilege to pass this experience on to the next generation of rising stars,” said Payne. To learn more about San Diego Coastal Flutes, visit
