Carmel Valley student from NYU receives U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship

Canyon Crest Academy 2011 graduate Graden O’Leary is one of approximately 610 U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who received a scholarship from the U.S. State Department’s Critical Language Scholarship program in 2013. O’Leary will spend eight weeks this summer in an intensive language institute studying Arabic in Morocco.

The CLS program is part of a U.S. government effort to expand dramatically the number of Americans studying and mastering critical foreign languages. It provides fully funded, group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences.

In the fall O’Leary will enter his junior year at New York University, double majoring in French and Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies with an Anthropology minor.
