Carmel Valley’s Summer Serenades 2012 concert series kicks off June 24

The Carmel Valley Recreation Council, along with Pardee Homes, Cymer and Kilroy Realty Corporation, will present this year’s Summer Serenades 2012 concert series. This will be the Council’s 22nd year to host the summer concert series and this summer promises to be one of the best! Bring the whole family for a night of live music and fun. Don’t forget your picnic baskets and dancing shoes!

“We have an exciting schedule this year” says Sharon Fornaciari, the event organizer. “Our concert series has something for everyone, from oldies Rock and Roll to the best of the ‘80s and ‘90s, the smooth sound of Reggae music and this year, new to our lineup, a string quartet playing some classical music.”

The Recreation Council has five excellent concerts lined up, which will run from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday evenings in the neighborhood parks of Carmel Valley.

The series begins June 24 at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center with Atomic Groove. If you are looking for energetic dance music for the whole family, this is the concert for you. Atomic groove is high energy from the first beat to the last.

Returning to the lineup this year is Left4Dead performing on July 1 at Solana Highlands Neighborhood Park. This seven-member band plays a variety of great dance music that will have the audience dancing to the beat!

New to the Summer Serenades concert series is Plato Soul, who will be performing on July 8 at Ashley Falls Neighborhood Park. With the amazing vocal talent of KT and their solid rhythm and horn sections they will be performing music that will make everyone smile and get up on their feet.

This year the Rec. Council has added a concert and will be trying something a bit different by introducing Quartetto Sorrento, a string quartet who will be performing some classical pieces for everyone’s enjoyment. They will be appearing at Solana Highlands Neighborhood Park on July 15 where these four talented musicians will be performing their wonderful and spontaneous music.

Wrapping up the series on July 22 is the return of Upstream and their smooth reggae sounds. Originally formed in the republic of Trinidad and Tobago and then relocated to Southern California in the early 1990s, they have an energetic eclectic style of Reggae and Soca that has earned them a formidable appellation in the music industry world.

The Summer Serenades concerts are free to the public, thanks to the generous support of the Carmel Valley Recreation Council along with Pardee Homes, and its new sponsors this year, Cymer and Kilroy Realty Corporation.

“We have had a longstanding relationship with Pardee Homes going back 20 years. Pardee Homes continues to support this wonderful community event. This year we welcome both Cymer and Kilroy in what we hope will also become a long-term relationship,” said Ginny Barnes, chair of the Council. “Additionally, these concerts could not be held without the continued support of the City of San Diego and its Parks and Recreation Department,” Barnes adds.
