Celebrities, spectators have a time at Morgan Run
To putt on the ninth green at the San Diego Celebrity Classic at Morgan Run on April 24, Hall of Famer Jerry Rice first had to drop the cigar from his mouth.
Rice was having too much fun on the course, taking time to mug for cameras before boarding his golf cart. The only person who seemed to be having more fun than Rice was Hank Bauer, former San Diego Charger running back and current commentator.
Bauer was dancing, posing and even took time to rib fellow celebrity golfer Bruce Jenner.
The easygoing spirit is what the Classic is all about, allowing fans to get up close and personal with their favorite athletes while supporting Rady’s Children’s Hospital.
Athletes participating in this year’s event included Chargers Nate Kaeding, Quentin Jammer, Billy Volek and Dave Binn. Former Padres Gary Templeton and Rollie Fingers also played as well as Olympians Dan Jansen and Mike Eruzione. Former NBA player Jack Marin came out on top in this year’s tournament.
Former Charger and current New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees had one of the largest followings at the tournament.
After a tee shot on Friday that was a little less accurate than one of his passes, one fan dared to call Brees a “shank-a-potamus.”
In response, Brees simply smiled.
