City of San Diego launches sewer study
Last Tuesday, the city of San Diego launched a comprehensive assessment of its entire sewage collection and treatment infrastructure to identify opportunities to maximize recycling and reclaimation of wastewater. The $2 million study is a result of an agreement between the City of San Diego and San Diego Coastkeeper and the Surfrider Foundation last January.
The city of San Diego imports nearly 90 percent of its water, and the region is experiencing a growing water crisis as imports from these sources are declining due to overconsumption, climate change and legal decisions.
