Concert a cause for commotion
Get ready to rock, Carmel Valley.
The Youth Arts Academy at the Boys & Girls Club’s Polster Branch is hosting a rock concert called Commotion by the Ocean from 1 to 5 p.m. May 9.
Local rock band A Dull Science will headline the festival, which will feature 11 rock bands from the academy.
The rock bands, featuring fifth- to 11th-grade musicians, will perform on the baseball field on a stage donated by KPBS. There will be snacks and a rock ‘n’ roll raffle, with all proceeds going to the Youth Arts Academy.
“We want to make it an annual event,” said Melissa Rodriguez, YAA manager.
The academy has brought music to Carmel Valley’s youth since 2007. In addition to its thriving rock band program, it also has a jazz ensemble, a beginning guitar group and private lessons in instruments, such as piano and saxophone, to less traditional instruments such as ukuleles and marimbas.
Bands performing next weekend are: Not Quite Right, Dain Bramage, Battery Powered Snail, Off White, SapHead, GroundZero, Britt, ¿Watabout?, Knowhope, Shark People and BarakOzana.
Advance tickets are $5 for children, $10 for adults. The day of the event, tickets will be $7 children and $12 adults. Tickets can be bought at the Boys & Girls Club branch on Mykonos Lane. For more information call 720-2194.
