Concert a crowd pleaser
It looked like Carmel Valley’s own, more family-friendly Coachella Music Festival at the Boys & Girls Club on May 9. Music-lovers lounged on the Polster branch’s lawn to hear bands from the Youth Arts Academy perform at the first-ever Commotion by the Ocean outdoor concert.
Concertgoers heard instrumentals from Not Quite Right; Eagles cover band SapHead, which is also the academy’s longest-running band; and “the youngest band in Carmel Valley rock history,” Watabout.
Watabout is made up of Laura Green, Beau Carlborg, Owen Peterson, Whit Sears and Nick Anderson. They sound anything but young, putting their own spins on Green Day’s “Holiday” and a rock-infused version of Rhianna’s “Umbrella.”
Bands Britt DeVore, Off White, Barack Ozana, Know Hope, Ground Zero, Shark People, Battery Powered Snails and Dain Bramage performed while vendors sold snacks, t-shirts and raffle tickets. The bands all led up to headliners A Dull Science, a local rock band.
