Cougars shoot down Sockers in overtime shootout
The San Diego Sockers, 11-2, were defeated on Saturday in the first overtime shootout in the PASL-Pro by the California Cougars, 11-4. The final score was 7-6, even after a spirited Sockers comeback from a 5-1 deficit.
More than 1,000 soccer fans came out to the Stockton Arena,
reported from the game.
“We knew they were going to come after us hard, and they did,” said Anthony Medina, “Once we came back from 5-1 down I thought we were going to pull out the win for sure.”
If the Sockers had won this game, they would have clinched the PASL-Pro Western Division. They can clinch the division if they win this Friday’s away game against Tijuana Revolucion or if the Cougars lose one more game. California has one more game in two weeks, a home game against Edmonton. Because of their win Saturday against San Diego, they have all but clinched the wild card seat.
The Sockers return to the
for back-to-back games Friday, Feb. 26, when they face Tijuana again and then Edmonton on Saturday night.
The
take place at the Del Mar Arena from March 11 to 13. For information and tickets, visit the
