For the 53rd year, the charity hosted its Art of Fashion event on the lawn at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe to show people what to stock up on for fall.
As always, the show, on Sept. 18,was held in the name of a good cause - this year all the proceeds go toward the Burn Institute.
Ladies learned that purple still reigns, jackets look hot cropped and being a girly girl is as fun and fashion-forward as ever. And pick up a pair of ankle boots why don’t you? The funkier the better.
Best dress:
Oscar de la Renta invented a whole new shade of blue in a gorgeous evening gown. Was it cobalt? Was it indigo? Floor skimming with a sweetheart neckline, it only looked better from behind where it surprised with a fishtail back.
Ruffles and ribbing and ruching, oh my!:
Ruffles appeared everywhere and designers got playful with textures. Saks Fifth Avenue brought it all together with a ribbed and ruched purple dress paired with a coat with ruffles all down the front. Celine showed a lovely crème-colored dress that played it straight until hitting a fully ruffled bottom.
Best coat:
Valentino’s dreamy cream-colored coat had a boat neck and hit just above the knees. A pretty butterfly pin on the lapel added a nice touch.
Best accessory:
While statement jewelry played up a lot of Pucci’s looks, a chunky and ultra-long blue and moss green scarf by Donna Karan looked great to wrap up in on those sub-70 San Diego days.
Shine sparkle:
Glitter and sparkle appeared in Saks Fifth Avenue clutches, shift dresses and on a killer metallic pencil skirt. A St. John standout was a black with gold sparkle backless dress with a deep neck and a sharp-looking tie in front.
Best excuse to book a trip to the mountains:
Pucci’s ski-lodge inspired designs made one long for snow capped peaks. Their signature colorful geometric prints appeared on sweater dresses, wool coats and puffy nylon jacket. For the daring? High-waist teal ski pants and metallic, lace-up boots.
Spring for fall:
Chloe’s blousy, asymmetrical white and floral print dress looked like too much fun, putting a little spring fever into fall.
Feminine wiles:
A lot of looks were heavy on light femininity. Donna Karan added ribbon belts as accessories and bows appeared on shoes. Valentino’s lacy black top was belted in a bow over a pair of pants.
Best use of spats:
No longer just for keystone cops, Chloe’s spats over heels added a funky flavor. And instantly converted the heels to ankle boots! Score!
Cute and cropped:
Cropped jackets are definitely in this season, Chloe showed an adorable black coat with military details and a full row of buttons while Saks went a more girly route with a cropped coat with a big black bow in front.
Pretty in patent:
Big patent leather bags appeared on Saks Fifth Avenue models’ arms.
