Critter Camp campers take a walk on the wild side

Critter Camp participants at Helen Woodward Animal Center got a taste of the wild last week when The Wildlife Company came to visit. About 150 children ages 4 through 13 got to meet an American alligator, a cute African pygmy hedgehog, a prairie dog and a legless lizard.

The children were also introduced to a coatimundi, a member of the raccoon family found in the southwestern United States and South America; and a kinkajou, an animal native to South Africa that kind of looks like a ferret.

The children learned fun facts about each animal as well as how important it is to preserve their habitats through efforts like recycling.

There are still some openings in Critter Camp. Visit
