Each year on June 21, United Ways across the country celebrate a Day of Action to support their surrounding communities. This year, United Way of San Diego County’s Day of Action focused on keeping literacy and summer reading alive by donating 25,000 books to San Diego families who can not afford to buy books themselves.

One-hundred San Diego business leaders gathered at The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank during the Day of Action to assemble thousands of colorful book bags, books and bookmarks with personalized notes. Volunteer groups included individuals from United Way’s board of directors, GEICO, Pratt & Whitney AeroPower, Bridgepoint Education, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, San Diego County of Education and KPMG.
