Del Sol Lions support blind athlete competing in San Diego Triathlon Challenge

Scott Leason was blinded in a convenience store robbery, but that has not prevented him from achieving his athletic goals. With the help of the Challenged Athletes Foundation, “Project Rebound,” Scott began water-skiing five years ago and recently earned a silver medal in national competition.

In appreciation for all that Challenged Athlete Foundation has done for him, Scott is competing with other challenged athletes and professional triathletes in the San Diego Triathlon Challenge on Oct. 23. Athletes begin at La Jolla Cove with a 1-mile swim then proceed to a 44-mile bike ride followed by a 10-mile run.

Del Sol Lion Daniel Powell is Scott’s swim guide and cycling captain. Scott’s motto is “Never lose sight of your goals and dreams.”

Scott’s service dog, “Kevin from Heaven,” seen here in the photo with Scott, has been with Scott nearly 10 years. Another trained service dog will join Scott and “Kevin” next month when Kevin retires from service.

The Del Sol Lions contributed $100 to the Challenged Athletes Foundation on Scott’s behalf. If you would like to support Scott’s endeavors in the Triathlon Challenge, please visit his personal fundraising website at:
