Suspected drunk driver arrested in Del Mar
A suspected drunken driver led law enforcement officers from Carlsbad down the coast to Del Mar early Sept. 18 but was arrested after a spike strip flattened the car’s tires, authorities said.
Officers attempted to stop a white Toyota Corolla on Carlsbad Boulevard near Tamarack Avenue shortly after 1:30 a.m., but the driver instead continued south along as the roadway, which becomes Coast Highway 101 as it passes through Encinitas and Solana Beach, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The suspect drove over a spike strip laid down by sheriff’s deputies near Chesterfield Drive but continued into Del Mar.
The driver eventually stopped on Camino Del Mar, between Ninth and 10th streets, and was arrested without incident, according to the CHP.
