Eagles reach state championship

Santa Fe Christian secured a second straight trip to the CIF State Division IV championship game when it beat The Bishop’s School, 27-25, 25-11, 25-18 in the Southern California regional volleyball championship game on Dec. 2.

Victoria Adelhelm totaled 10 kills and six blocks in the victory, and Kristin Miller had 10 kills with four aces. Jenny DeVries contributed six kills and nine blocks, Annie Francis had six kills, and Taylor Johnson added two aces.

Santa Fe Christian had lost to Bishop’s in the CIF San Diego Section title game on Nov. 22, and had dropped two of their three matches against the Knights this season.

The Eagles advanced to play in the state championship game against Christian Brothers of Sacramento – the match was scheduled for Dec. 6 at noon at UC Irvine.

Santa Fe Christian has won state titles in 2003, ’05 and ‘07, but hasn’t won in consecutive years. The entered the state title game with a 31-6 record.

The Eagles reached the regional final with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-10 victory over Bakersfield Christian on Nov. 29.

Adelhelm had nine kills and nine blocks to lead the Eagles in the Bakersfield Christian match. Miller also had nine kills, and setter Taylor Johnson had 24 assists.
