Canyon Crest Academy Senior and Solana Beach resident Elliot Cohen has been selected to be a member of the U.S. Youth Soccer team in the upcoming 13th Pan American Maccabi Games taking place from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, 2016 in Santiago, Chile. Teams from nations all over the western hemisphere will be competing in an Olympic-style format among teams of Jewish teens from all over the world.
Elliot states “I am so honored and appreciative to be able to compete at this level. I am very excited to travel to Chile, I never thought my soccer abilities would afford me such opportunities to be able to travel the world and learn about new cultures. Being able to join hundreds of other Jewish teens from around the world is such an honor and cannot wait to meet the other teams from around the world.”
Elliot will arrive in Miami on Dec. 23 for a Team USA mini-camp to train with his new team and prepare for the Games.
Elliot is currently the leading scorer and starting center mid-fielder on the Canyon Crest Academy boy’s varsity soccer team. During the Ravens’ 2015-16 varsity season, Elliot has already scored six goals and two assists and has been named captain of his team.
As for the Ravens, Elliot has helped the team to go 5-4-1 during their current season.
Elliot has been recruited to play for the Carnegie Mellon Tartans and has committed to attend the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon beginning in the Fall of 2016. His family is very proud of him.
