The coastal cities have a new fire chief.
Encinitas appointed Deputy Chief Mike Daigle as fire chief on Dec. 19. Daigle has served as the department’s interim chief since the previous fire chief resigned after just two months on the job.
Under a joint fire management services agreement, the Encinitas Fire Department provides operational oversight for emergency services in Encinitas, Del Mar and Solana Beach.
“We’re very pleased to have named Deputy Chief Mike as our next fire chief for the three cities,” said Solana Beach City Manager David Ott.
“I’m looking forward to working with Mike during this next year as we move forward with the three departments and work toward making it one organization. I think Mike has the skill sets to be successful on that.”
Daigle has been with the department for 26 years. He served as interim chief when former Chief Scott Henry retired after serving the department for more than 30 years, and again when former Chief Jon Canavan resigned Dec. 5. Canavan joined the department on Oct. 14.
“It’s really exciting to be in this position,” Daigle said. “I’m looking forward to it.”
