Expert to discuss middle school years at Skyline School’s ‘Parent Education Night’
Skyline Elementary School in Solana Beach will hold a “Parent Education Night” on Thursday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m.
The event will feature guest speaker Dr. Adria O’Donnell who will speak on “Somewhere in the Middle, ” about the social and emotional complexities of soon-to-be and current middle schoolers. Target audience is parents of 5-8th graders.
Refreshments will be provided. This event is for parents only but childcare will be provided on site.
O’Donnell is a licensed clinical psychologist practicing in San Diego. For the past 10 years, she has specialized in working with children and adolescents, with a specialization in teen girls. She concentrates on such matters as social skills training for adolescents, learning disabilities, tech-aggression and relational aggression, a more covert form of bullying often used by girls.
In these areas, O’Donnell has become a coveted public speaker and has developed several pioneering programs. She helped create the “Girls ROCK” program for the Junior League of Pasadena and two programs for grammar (“Brave Talk”) and middle and high school-aged kids (“Staight Talk”), which teaches conflict resolution skills and assertiveness training.
