Firefighters to tailgate at park

The 30th Annual MDA Padres Tailgate and Firefighter Chili Cook-off will take place on June 12 at the Embarcadero Marina Park South. This year more than 22 fire departments will converge and compete for bragging rights to be the best chili in San Diego.

Participating fire departments will create their signature chili and serve it from a specially themed and decorated booth. Some of the selections that will be available include: Rack Em’ Up Chili, Double Over Head Chili, Round Em’ Up Chili and the list goes on.

The event will also feature all you can eat hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst and snacks. In addition, this year participants can enjoy cold beverages from Karl Strauss Brewery, Firehouse Brewing, Pizza Port and Stone Brewing Company.

Live music from The Shockwaves and a world-class sports memorabilia complete the festivities.

Admission is $40 for adults and $20 for children and includes a ticket to the Padres vs. Mariners game that evening. Event hours are 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. All funds raised will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association/San Diego-Imperial Chapter.
