Five Santa Fe Christian School equestrian team members earn champion recognition
Five girls from Santa Fe Christian Schools recently received champion recognition in the 2009 Greater San Diego Hunter Jumper Association Championship Show.
Competing in various events were Victoria Tuck, Champion in the Children’s Hunter Classic; Paige Pullman, Champion in the Equitation Flat; Madison Root, Champion in the Modified Junior/Amateur Hunter Classic; Jacqui Walker, Champion in the Novice and Maiden Equitation Flat, and Ali Acosta, Reserved Champion in the Green Rider Hunter Class.
Recognizing an interest in equestrian activities, a group of 10 SFC girls organized and created an Equestrian Team at the school, which now has 19 members. They will become members of the San Diego Scholastic Equestrian League, which was formed to provide students in the equestrian sports the support and recognition that mainstream sports receive at the junior and senior high school level.
Students who participate in many of the local and regional horse shows will continue to participate in those shows earning individual points and awards. In addition, as an SDSEL team Santa Fe Christian will earn a second set of award and points that go towards the school team.
Each student/rider’s current trainer will act as their coach/trainer at the SDSEL shows, with the school team being required to participate in a minimum of four shows to qualify for the final event. Students can compete in a variety of classes including Hunter, Jumper, and Dressage as well as Equitation Flat and Medals Classes.
