Get out and vote - but first register
These are undeniably turbulent times we are living in, and as if the state of the financial markets weren’t enough to concern ourselves with, we are swiftly approaching the Nov. 4 general election.
The ballot this year is jammed full of local and state propositions with many if not all having a direct impact on our pocketbooks - and our lives.
It’s always a delicate balancing act between the need of the individual, the government, and the wallet of both. Just ask our elected officials serving in Washington D.C. how things went this week.
The best way to protect your interests? Do your homework and vote. It may sound simplistic, but the disconnect between government and its voters is palpable. Over 30 percent of California voters failed to register in the June election. The percentage was slightly greater in San Diego County. Sitting on your hands accomplishes nothing.
If you haven’t registered to vote, do so, and immediately. The voter registration deadline is Oct. 20. Not sure if you’re registered or need to? Go to
for detailed information and downloadable registration forms.
No matter how separated you might feel some times from Washington, Sacramento or City Hall, you really aren’t. All of our personal interests and pocketbooks depend on each one of us being informed and prepared to make changes that benefit not only ourselves, but also our world. We need an intelligent and informed populace - now more than ever.
