Golf tournament to help young women

The Women’s Institute of Southern California, a Carmel Valley-based nonprofit, is looking for sponsors and participants for its Oct. 9 Rocktoberfest golf tournament. The tournament, held at The Vineyard Golf Course in Escondido starting at 1 p.m., will help support the WIOSC’s Step Into Independence program for young women.

Step helps promote self-esteem and the value of community service through fun and positive meetings, service projects and friendship building activities. Programs will be launched in Carmel Valley and Kearny Mesa in October.

A former Step participant said, “At a stressful time in my life, it’s nice to get away and be with girls who are experiencing the same things and want the same things as well - to be happy, confident and true to themselves.”

In addition to golf, Rocktoberfest will also feature a silent auction, hole-in-one contest, live music, barbecue dinner, beer garden and the opportunity to win a Mercedes or $1 million.

Registration is $95 per player or $350 per foursome.
