Solana Beach is hosting Green Building Week Feb. 23 to 27 to educate the public about environmentally friendly building and about the city’s new green building programs.

On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, information sessions on sustainable building, design and green roofs will be held at City Hall from 6 to 7 p.m.

The week will culminate with a Green Building Fair on Friday, Feb. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Fletcher Cove Park.

The free event is open to anyone who is “thinking about building green, or even remodeling green,” said Steve Didier, the assistant to the city manager.

Local experts will be on hand to discuss sustainable building and energy, as well as the latest building materials and design.

Representatives from Build It Green will explain the recognition program the city recently adopted for green home construction.

Similarly, representatives from the United States Green Building Council will provide insight into how to achieve the silver standard for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), which the city is incentivizing for commercial projects.

Local vendors and agencies expected to attend the fair include Acme Environmental, Building Green Future, Butler Sun Solutions, California Center for Sustainable Energy, Cedros Gardens, Frost Hardwood, Green House, Hamann Consulting, Nature and Culture International, Ponizil Energy, Russell Levan, San Diego County Water Authority, San Diego Gas and Electric, San Diego Green Homes, Santa Fe Irrigation District, SEMA Design Studio, Sequoia Solar, Solana Center for Environmental Innovation, Steigerwald-Dougherty General Contractors, Trex, Wardell Builders and Water2Save.
