Santa Fe Christian’s Sam Hoekstra was recognized by the KUSI Prep Pigskin Play of the Week for his 97-yard touchdown run against Monte Vista on Sept. 19. Each Tuesday, KUSI News nominates four high school football

plays eligible for the Subway Play of the Week. The winner is determined by online voting, with the four nominated plays available for viewing via KUSI’s Web site.

Hoekstra, a senior, currently leads the SFC Eagles in rushing with 539 yards on just 32 carries and already has 10 touchdowns.

“We’re really proud of Sam and our team for winning the award, but we’re even more proud of the way our kids are learning to support each other and keep this in perspective,” said Mike Siciliano, the school’s deputy director of development. “While we want our kids and teams to maximize their athletic potential, it’s crucial to us that they also learn to become people who will positively impact their communities when they leave SFC. Seeing Sam and his teammates take this in stride by staying humble, encouraging each other and growing closer as a team is the best part of this.”

The Eagles are currently 4-0 and are ranked third in San Diego’s Division 4 section and first in the Southern California State Bowl rankings for the Small Schools division.
