Horizon students run for a cause
No morning pep rally can quite compare to one at Horizon Prep. And the Christian school hardly needed a rally to get pumped for their Spirit Run at 9 a.m. April 10. From the start of the day, students were buzzing and ready to race.
This was Horizon’s fourth annual Spirit Run, an event that gets the children running laps for charity. In the past three years, the run has raised over $160,000.
This year’s funds will go toward building homes in Sudan and to the Grace Children’s Home orphanage in Tijuana.
Before the run, Galyn Thompson from the Sudan Missions Team told the students about a recent trip to Sudan where he saw all the medicine in a clinic the children helped support with last year’s fundraiser race.
This year, their funds will go toward building 17-foot tall homes that can house 20 people. Each home costs $250 to build.
Two former Horizon Christian Fellowship members are building the Tijuana orphanage and the funds will go toward purchasing supplies and furniture.
“When you get tired I want you to think ‘I’m running for something more,’” Vice Principal Heather Henning said.
