Irrigation schedule to continue

The Santa Fe Irrigation District announced Monday that the mandatory irrigation schedule for all customers will remain at three days per week through the winter months and until further notice.

The district remains in a Level 2 Drought Condition with mandatory water use restrictions in effect. The initial Level 2 Drought Condition irrigation schedule called for one day per week irrigation during the months of November through May; however, customer response to conservation measures has been very positive, and the three-day per week irrigation schedule will remain in effect.

“With several months of conservation under the Level 2 mandatory restrictions, we now have a better idea of how effective they are,” said Michael T. Hogan, president of the district board of directors.

“The response from our customers has been tremendous, and we are in a position to try and mitigate impacts to our customers from the water shortage,” Hogan said.

He also noted that outdoor irrigation comprises well over 50 percent of the water used in the district service area and that reduced irrigation has had a large impact on overall water demand.
