‘Jockeys’ gets sneak preview

The Communication Alliance to Network Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses (CANTER) held a sneak preview screening of the second season premiere of Animal Planet’s series “Jockeys” at Yogi’s Beach Bar and Restaurant in Cardiff on Sunday.

The event raised more than $5,000 for the organization, which provides free services to racing trainers and owners to help them find nonrace homes for their retiring racehorses.

Among the crowd of about 100 were Mike Smith, Kayla Stra, Alex Solis and Joe Talamo from “Jockeys,” along with CANTER officials and representatives of Merial, one of the event sponsors. Yogi’s owner Keith Nordling donated the food.

The Animal Planet show, which premieres Friday, follows a group of jockeys and their horses as they aim for the Kentucky Derby.
