La Colonia campout packs a family-friendly adventure
The Solana Beach Family Campout last Saturday at La Colonia Park offered a variety of activities for dozens of local families. The campout was sponsored by the Solana Beach Parks and Recreation Department and lasted from 5 p.m. Saturday evening to 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
The Solana Beach Heritage Museum was open for families to walk through and learn about what life as an 1800s-era resident was like. Local Boy Scout Troops provided and cooked a spaghetti dinner for everyone.
After dinner the Friends of the Solana Beach Library provided a campfire program full of adventurous storytelling and s’mores.
Campers woke Sunday morning to a pancake breakfast provided and cooked by the Solana Beach firefighters.
“The city is very happy we can provide all of this at a reasonable rate,” said Kirk Wenger, Recreation Supervisor.
Phyllis Schwartzlose of the Heritage Museum was delighted to see so many families setting up camp.
“It was very successful last year; I imagine they will fill up the whole park tonight,” she sad. The fee for the festivities was $25 per tent and approximately 125 guests spent the night on the grass field at La Colonia Park.
