The No. 3-ranked Torrey Pines Lady Falcons (12-5, 4-0) girls volleyball team tuned up for their Tuesday grudge match against No. 1-ranked La Costa Canyon with an easy 3-0 victory against the San Pasqual Lady Eagles (7-9, 0-4) on Oct. 16. The game scores were 25-15, 25-11, and 25-14.

“We were not overlooking this match today,” said Lady Falcons Head Coach Jim Harrah. “San Pasqual is a good team, and their loss to LCC (La Costa Canyon) was competitive. But, our girls definitely were thinking about our archrival LCC.

Game one had only one tie at 1-1, as the Lady Falcons raced to a 9-2 lead, sparked by Jenny Woolway’s five-straight service points including one ace, and strong net play by Kerra “Boo” Schroeder and Alexa Armstrong. Torrey Pines stretched the lead to 18-8, with Lexi Campbell reeling off five-straight service points including two aces and Alyse Hensley and Boo Schroeder contributing monster kills. San Pasqual mounted a mini comeback, as Courtney Boyle served five-straight winning serves, closing the gap to 19-14. Woolway served the final three points as game point came on blocks by Schroeder and Armstrong.

After the second game was tied at 3-3, Torrey Pines again took control as Woolway did her thing with four-straight service points including one ace, to extend the lead to 11-5. Lady Falcons Mary Harrah served three-straight giving her team another double-digit lead at 19-9. Game point came when a Lady Eagles ball went out of bounds.

It was the same old song in game three as the Lady Falcons jumped served to an 8-2 lead. The closest San Pasqual came was when Courtney Boyle served three-straight cutting the lead to 8-5. But Lady Falcon Belinda Kraemer served six-straight with one ace, pushing the contest to 19-8. Strong kills from Schroeder aided the run.

Schroeder who led in game in kills with 16 said after the match, the La Costa Canyon match was on her team’s mind.

“Yes, we were thinking about our match with LCC next week,” she said. “But, honestly we take each game and each match one at a time. LCC was always in the back or our mind. We work very hard on our set plays at practice and our team chemistry is great.”

Torrey Pines used all of its players in the match.

“We are so deep and so talented that I can put anyone in and they will do the job,” said Harrah. “We have been doing this all season in the Avocado league and also in non-league matches. We are very strong and I would have done this even if we remained in the Palomar League.”

Leading the way for the Lady Falcons was “Boo” Schroeder with 16 kills, five blocks and two service points. Jenny Woolway added16 service points with two aces, and Alexa Armstrong added six kills, five blocks and two service points with one ace.
