Library friends donate funds
The San Diego County Library got a boost from the Friends of Solana Beach Library last week when the group donated $20,000 to the county library to be used to purchase books and other materials. To enhance buying power, the County Library’s Matching Funds Program will double the donation.
The Friends asked that the library use their contribution to augment the book and materials collection through its system of 33 branches and two bookmobiles. As the Solana Beach Branch is a joint use facility with Earl Warren Middle School, the county library’s Collection Development Division will put a focus on youth and teens when purchasing materials.
The county library system’s entire collection of 1.7 million items is also now a floating one. Books, DVDs and other materials remain at the branch to which they are returned by customers. Many library systems use floating collections because they focus on each community’s needs, allow materials to move freely from branch to branch and give all customers equal access to the library’s resources.
