Del Mar Union School District again proved they are the top elementary school district in the region as Academic Performance Index scores were recently released. The best performing schools in San Diego were Sage Canyon and Ocean Air, who both have API scores of 976. Torrey Hills (963), Sycamore Ridge (959), Ashley Falls (955) and Carmel Del Mar (948) are all in the top 10 performing schools in San Diego.

A school’s API is a scale that ranges from 200 to 1,000 calculated from a school’s performance in the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program. The state goal is for schools to achieve an 800 score.

At last week’s Del Mar board of trustees meeting Katie Shanahan, coordinator of state and federal projects, reported that the district average of 960 is 170 points above the state average of 790. Shanahan said she was very excited to report that in the category of English learners the district scored a 924, 196 points over the state average. Their students with disabilities scored 855, which is 224 points higher than the state average.

The Solana Beach School District also performed above the state average. Carmel Creek had the highest API rating in the district with 947. In Rancho Santa Fe School District’s R. Roger Rowe School scored a 951.

San Dieguito Union High School District also performed well with Carmel Valley Middle School getting the highest rating with 962.
