Local woman faces embezzlement charges
A former volunteer bookkeeper for Solana Beach and Rancho Santa Fe Girl Scout troops faces embezzlement charges after allegedly admitting she stole thousands of dollars from the groups, a sheriff’s official reported today.
Janet Daily, 36, was arrested on Saturday, financial-crimes Sgt. Mark Varnau said.
Last week, volunteer coordinators for the Girl Scouts discovered $9,000 missing from their coffers after Daily announced that she was leaving the organization and moving out of state, according to Varnau.
The suspect oversaw the bank accounts of 44 of the youth agency’s troops in Solana Beach and Rancho Santa Fe for seven years, the sergeant said. She allegedly confessed to stealing the funds over an 18-month period.
Daily was booked into county jail on suspicion of embezzlement and grand theft.
