MCASD to host teen film workshop
The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego invites teens to attend “Indy-pendent Filmmaking: How Three Teenagers Remade a Hollywood Epic For Next to Nothing” on Friday, July 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its downtown location.
After the premiere of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in 1981, 12-year-old friends, Chris Strompolos, Eric Zala and Jayson Lamb, set out to film their own shot-by-shot adaptation of the film in the backyards of their Mississippi homes. The seven-year, $7,000 project, “Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation,” was completed in 1989, and two decades later, the 100-minute film has emerged as a minor cult phenomenon.
Join filmmakers Chris Strompolos and Eric Zala for a hands-on, how-to indie filmmaking workshop. Learn the basics of each stage of the production process, from developing a shot list to organizing and editing your videos.
This workshop is recommended for teens ages 14-18. For reservations, contact Elizabeth Yang-Hellewell, youth programs coordinator, at (858) 454-3541, ext. 153 or
